The presentation is about capacity building of rural banks for the effective provision of financial services to micro-enterprises. These services include loan disbursement and repayments, micro-deposits, cash withdrawal, mobile airtime reload, remittances (transferring money) and bill payment.
The presentation lists four challenges facing rural banks involved in microfinance:
- growing competition
- high operating costs
- demanding clients, and
- need for product diversification.
And goes on to discuss the various ways these challenges can be overcome, i.e. through training courses that
- improve market research and product development,
- help improve loan processing efficiency (via automated loan management systems that manage credit scores, consumer surveys and loan documentation).
Lastly, the presentation shares some ways micro-insurance can be effectively offered through rural banks.
